What can I control through DMX?

The wireless DMX modules provide ON/OFF triggering for SmokeNINJA PRO. Select the effect mode and output settings manually on the machine before the cue. DMX does not remotely change the mode or intensity.

Can DMX trigger the Haze Nozzle?

The Haze Nozzle is paired directly to the trigger of the SmokeNINJA PRO. Therefore, once you Trigger the SmokeNINJA PRO via DMX, the Haze Nozzle will turn on automatically as well.

How many SmokeNINJA PRO units can one transmitter control?

Each receiver controls one SmokeNINJA PRO. One PMI 2.4 GHz transmitter can trigger multiple paired PMI 2.4 GHz receivers, allowing several units to respond to the same cue. The CRMX receiver uses a similar LumenRadio CRMX workflow.

How many DMX channels does each receiver use?

Each receiver uses one DMX channel and address for ON/OFF triggering. Set multiple receivers to the same address when you want their connected SmokeNINJA PRO units to respond as a group.

How long does the battery last?

The DMX Modules have internal batteries: 30 minutes of charging will provide 12 hours of operation.

When connected to the DMX Module, will my SmokeNINJA PRO shut off after certain idle time?

Once the DMX Modules are switched on and becomes active, it will override all auto-shut off systems and the SmokeNINJA PRO will run continuously (i.e. around 12 hours)

Which PMI smoke machines are compatible?

These wireless DMX modules are designed for SmokeNINJA PRO only. They are not compatible with the original SmokeGENIE or first-generation SmokeNINJA. Confirm compatibility before ordering.

Do the receivers connect with a wired XLR cable?

No. Each receiver attaches directly to SmokeNINJA PRO by USB-C and receives the DMX trigger wirelessly. The PMI transmitter connects to a 3-pin DMX console. For a 5-pin console, confirm the appropriate 5-pin-to-3-pin adapter with the console manufacturer or venue technician.

What pin type is the PMI 2.4g DMX Transmitter?

3-Pin. You can buy an adapter to fit it into your 5-pin ports.

I can honestly say, PMI Gear have created a game changer with the Wireless DMX modules on the SmokeNINJA PRO. Not only does it allow for multiple smoke positions on set with the upgraded Ninja units, but it also provides a secure and reliable method to operate the machines remotely.

I love my Smoke Genie and have used them on all the film productions I’ve worked on over the last 6 years (Expendables 4, Willow, Small Things Like These, Mayfair Witches to name a few) but this new system with the SmokeNINJA machines opens the door to more exciting possibilities. Well done PMI Gear, you’ve done it again and made my life easier in the world of special effects!
