Celebrating Art and Technology: The Fog Machine in the 53rd Hong Kong Arts Festival

This year, PMI is honoured to have sponsored the 53rd Hong Kong Arts Festival (HKAF), where we provided essential technical support for two of their feature shows, Hippolytus” and La Sylphide. Our innovative handheld fog machine the SmokeNINJA PRO and new accessory DMX module were used in the performances for stunning visual effects within the rich narratives of the performances.

The 53rd Hong Kong Arts Festival

The Hong Kong Arts Festival, launched in 1973, is a major international arts event dedicated to enriching the cultural life of the city. Every February and March, the festival presents leading local and international artists across various genres of the performing arts. This commitment to artistic expression not only enriches the cultural landscape of Hong Kong but also fosters community engagement and appreciation for the arts.

Hippolytus by The National Theatre of Greece

One of the festival's standout productions is Hippolytus, performed by the National Theatre of Greece at the Lyric Theatre, The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. This daring reinterpretation of Euripides' classic play revisits one of mythology's greatest tragic heroes, exploring the conflict between human will and divine power.

Our fog machines were integrated into the set design, placed discreetly in the bushes and rugged terrain. This allowed for dynamic fog effects that enhanced the emotional intensity of the performance.

La Sylphide by The Czech National Ballet

Another highlight of this year's festival is La Sylphide, presented by the Czech National Ballet at the Grand Theatre, Hong Kong Cultural Centre. This ballet, created in 1836, showcases the unique Bournonville style of dancing, offering audiences a glimpse into the Romantic ballet era. The SmokeNINJA PRO was used to create a safe smoke effect for the onstage cauldron.

We are truly honoured to have supported the Hong Kong Arts Festival in these two remarkable feature shows. Our collaboration not only highlights the synergy between technology and the arts but also reflects our commitment to fostering creativity and cultural expression. We look forward to continuing our partnership with HKAF and contributing to the vibrant artistic community in Hong Kong for years to come.
