Can I use PMI Smoke Machine in venues with fire alarms?
Use this simple flowchart to find out!
1. DOES THE ALARM LOOK LIKE THIS?

IONIZATION / PHOTOELECTRIC SENSORS

TEMPERATURE-SENSITIVE SPRINKLERS
SAFE
The temperature from the smoke of SmokeGENIE will not trigger these alarms.
2. ARE YOU ALLOWED TO REMOVE THE BATTERY OR SWITCH IT OFF?

SAFE
It is common practice for venues to temporarily switch off alarms for photo/movie productions. Be sure to get the permission of the venue owner, AND switch them back on after the shoot.
3. CAN YOU COVER THE DETECTOR WITH A BAG/SHIELD?

SAFE
If you are given permission, film crews usually use Tape, Shower caps, or Plastic Bags to TEMPORARILY cover the smoke detectors. Be sure you SEAL OFF ALL SENSORS, and DO NOT DAMAGE the smoke detector. Remove the covers once your shoot is done.
Ionization/photoelectric smoke detectors that cannot be switched off are usually connected to local FIRE SERVICES. You might need to pay for any fees that are incurred by triggering the system. NOTE: If the fire alarm can be triggered by TRADITIONAL FOG MACHINES / HAZERS, it would ALSO be triggered by the smoke of SmokeGENIE or SmokeNINJA.
