Robin Eagan's Facemelter Q&A Banner

Creator of the Week: Robin Eagan

In this new blog series, we will highlight a Creator of the Week who uses our fog machine and take a behind-the-scenes look into their creative process. For our inaugural feature, we interviewed Robin Eagan, a photographer from Sacramento. Eagan takes us behind his photo "Facemelter" and some tips and tricks on using the SmokeNINJA.

What’s the idea behind this shoot?

This photo is called Facemelter, it is the 3rd photo in a series I recently did called “Alice”. This is the moment just after going into the rabbit hole everything becomes way too intense for Alice. I wanted it to feel like something out of the twilight zone. To create all the layers I photographed the models reflections through strategically placed broken glass. We used the SmokeNINJA around the vintage hairdryer to make it feel like it was over heating.

How did you feel about the fog machine SmokeNINJA?

I am in love with my SmokeNINJA. My favorite setting is the dry ice. I find I have a great amount of control with the smoke using it in that mode. I love how it’s compact and easy to use. I constantly am using my SmokeNINJA, in my art and in my commercial work. Recently I art directed a short film and it ended up coming in handy for that as well to create some good cigar smoke.

Any tips and tricks for our users?

Best tip I could give is as soon as you get a SmokeNINJA just started playing with it and learn the settings and what the tools do. So when it’s time for your shoot you know how to use it. This thing will fill the set full of smoke or just give you some steam over some coffee. It has a wide range.

About the Creator

Robin Eagan is a photographer residing in Sacramento, Ca. His work is meticulously created, imaginative, and fantastically strange. Creating ordinary things, and everyday people to be looked at differently. He presents a world of glitter and color, a world that looks perfectly illustrated but describes the darkest sides of the human condition. This interplay between expressive visuality and the introverted mood gets emphasized by the viewer’s own interpretation, creating the fascination of the work.
